Price the payday before you buy the traffic

A short drama can look like a hit on a feed and still lose money. This calculator puts unlock economics and feed CPM on one page, next to traffic and production cost, so you see payout, ROI and break-even views before you scale. The presets follow public series-unlock and budget figures; your contract fills in the rest.

How to use the short drama revenue calculator

Three steps, nothing to install, no account.

  1. 1

    Pick a payout band

Choose ReelShort-style or DramaBox-style unlock, feed CPM, or custom. The fields fill with a planning band you can edit.

  2. 2

    Add views and costs

Enter plays, traffic spend and production cost. Switch live-action vs AI-assisted if you want a sourced starting budget.

  3. 3

    Read ROI and break-even

Payout, profit, ROI and break-even views update as you type. Copy the estimate, then make the episode if the line looks reachable.

What is a short drama revenue calculator?

A short drama revenue calculator estimates what a vertical series can return to the creator. It combines plays, a payout model (pay-per-episode unlock or CPM), traffic spend and production cost, then returns expected payout, ROI and the view count that breaks even. The numbers are planning estimates you can replace with your own contract — not a platform statement.

  • Two payout models — Unlock / episode share for in-app series, or feed CPM for open social inventory. Switch and the math updates.
  • Costs on the same page — Traffic spend and production cost sit next to revenue, so ROI and break-even views are honest, not vanity.
  • Private, instant, free — The calculator runs on this page. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you do not need an account.

Unlock payouts and feed ads are not the same business

The money in short drama is decided by where the episode is watched, not by how sharp the plot is. In-app unlocks and subscriptions collect high spend per finishing viewer; open feeds pay CPM once. The same show can be an order of magnitude apart on the two paths. Treat feed views as the cost of being found, and the app as the place you get paid.

  • Most of the money is in the app — Over 60% of micro-drama revenue in 2025 came from subscriptions and pay-per-episode unlocks (Omdia, cited on the statistics page).
  • Viewers already pay series prices — Finishing one ReelShort series typically costs $37–47; DramaBox sits around $30–50 (Filmustage, same page). Those bands seed the presets — your conversion and share still come from your deal.
  • Feeds find; apps collect — A CPM line is here so you can price discovery. It is not a substitute for in-app unlock economics.

How the estimate is calculated

Unlock mode: payout = views × paid conversion × average spend per paying viewer × creator share. CPM mode: payout = views / 1,000 × CPM × creator share. ROI is (payout − traffic − production) / (traffic + production). Break-even views are total cost divided by payout per view. Presets fill public price bands; conversion and share start as planning defaults you should overwrite.

  • ReelShort- and DramaBox-style bands — Unlock presets use the public series-unlock ranges above. They are planning starting points, not official creator rates.
  • Production cost from the same sources — Live-action 60–90 episode series typically $150,000–250,000; AI-assisted production is cited at about one-fifth the cost and three times the speed.
  • A $11 billion market still has a unit-economics test — Global micro-drama revenue hit about $11 billion in 2025 (Omdia). The calculator asks whether your next title clears its own bill before you scale traffic.

From a break-even number to a short drama you can ship

A payout estimate is only useful if the next episode is cheap enough to test. DramaSo is built for that second half: idea to script to a vertical episode you can put in front of viewers, then come back here with real plays. Free to start.

  • Write the episode, not just the spreadsheet — Carry the concept into the short drama generator once the break-even line looks reachable.
  • Keep traffic honest — If break-even views dwarf what you can buy, cut production or change the payout path before you spend.
  • Cite the underlying numbers — Every band on this page points back to the short drama statistics article so you can check the original sources.
